Benue State University, Makurdi, fondly called ‘BSU' is a state-owned and governed higher institution of learning established in 1992 out of the need to establish a conventional University that would complement the specialized activities of the Federal University of Agriculture in the State. Starting off with just a little over 300 students in its first year, BSU has grown to an enrollment range of 30,000-35,000 students offering accredited programmes in 8 faculties. These courses lead to officially recognized degrees such as Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees in several disciplines. The courses offered are accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The University has also won several awards, one of such is the grant from World Bank to establish a Centre for Food and Technology Research aimed at tackling the problem of higher education in West and Central Africa. BSU partners with other institutions in the country and Africa to bringing to students a wide variety of courses such as, Analytical/Environmental Chemistry, Biostatistics, Food Chemistry, Food Processing Technology, Food Science and Technology, e.t.c; and also availing them the opportunity to benefit from quality research-based education which is in high demand.

Is the best state owned university in benue state which has stood the taste of time, this prime university has produced alot of vibrant people. I am also a product of this fine university. Although they need some few upgrade in certain areas but with time they will get there.
