Benin City Airport

This facility is old and ill maintained. The fittings are falling apart. It can best be described as a very busy airstrip. It was rowdy and the staff were more interested in tips and bribes than doing their actual jobs first before begging for the tips. I didn't also like that the runway is so close to the departure lounge, as the loud noise of the aircrafts filtered into the hall.

Really not a class of an airport. Entrance and exit gates looks like a school gate. Facilities are more unkept and no quality service delivery. Just the regular operations. The Airport needs more government funding and new equipments or upgrade to a national airport not just a drop off location as I can decide it.

This is the most dirtiest Airport I have ever visit in all sojourn, litters everywhere with no one caring to clean the whole place up, the management should look deep into the activities of cleaning up the entire place on every 30 minutes as against how is looking at the attached picture. I understand that Benin people are the most traveled people in Nigeria ie they have seen how other nations keep their environment clean, how come that is not been replicated here. Please let's help keep the great Benin empire airport clear as this is the major gateway into the empire.

The airport is looking old and requires some level of renovation and face-lift. The baggage claim rolling machine has some exposed part that has potential to cause injury to unsuspecting passengers or users of the facility. The general waiting hall is very neat with adequate cooling of the air conditioning system. The rest room was also looking neat. This was as at my last visit in October 09, 2022.

If you are used to the unusual operational mode and peculiar order of things in Benin City, you will be at home at this airport. We had to sort out a later flight, when I thought we'd booked and paid for our flight via my phone, a day before. All in, we got new tickets for a later same day flight. The airport staff are very courteous, especially when you're generous.

On my very recent flight through this airport, I observed as follows

Covid 19 protocol is fairly observed with everyone inside the airport building wearing a face mask ???? and the place scanty with less activities. Though just outside the building towards the car pack is a different story all together.

The Airconditioners seem to be working optimally.

The parking area is quite big and spacious. I didn’t find out if there is a gate fee or parking fee however.

The few people I interacted with were nice and courteous.

The environment looked fairly clean.

Of course there were good safety equipment including working fire extinguishers. Security was also not bad at the time.

The entrance is wheelchair accessible.

It's quite small for an airport. Hence, the waiting area is under the shade of tents, outside the building. Don't know much about their operational logistics though. It is my first time here.
