For an expat in Abuja this is the only real choice for a child's education. From a parent's perspective I see some good teachers on campus, but with two children attending for the last three years, SOME is not enough. The school seems to have taken a turn for the worse with the arrival of a new director a year and a half ago. It used to have a more open atmosphere yet now seems almost like a military academy in many ways. Each year there are so many new faces it is hard to know why half the teaching staff continues to leave.

Teachers are approachable and the secondary principal has time for parents, but the director of the school has very few social skills, and given some of the decisions made, many parents are questioning his vision. Sport is not a priority and just last year the elementary French program was discontinued with no replacement. This means that we are in West Africa and French is not taught until grade six. This is our family's third international school and I am shocked that the first year for foreign language is sixth and Spanish was added in addition to French. The elementary principal has no explanation, and seems lost in his position. It is possible the change was to make room for the director's Spanish speaking wife. There are no former Spanish colonies in Africa so the choice of language is strange.

All in all it is a school and my children are happy enough, but the entire family is looking forward to moving on from Nigeria. This is no place for an adolescent child: high-security compounds, corrupt police stopping every foreigner and nothing to do but go to three or four average Lebanese and Indian restaurants has now run it's course.
